Low and No Cost Summer Movies and Concerts

Worn out from the swimming pool? Overloaded from the museums? Looking for something fun to do with the family that won’t break the bank? Check out these low- or no-cost concerts and movies around the Denver-Metro area.

Both indoor and outdoor film venues offer lots of family-friendly options throughout the summer. Here are spots around town to watch a flick without paying the full theater price.

INDOOR FILMS

AMC Summer Movie Camp: Wednesdays at 10am through August 5, www.amctheatres.com, will show $1 family-friendly movies at these locations:
AMC Highlands Ranch 24, 103 West Centennial, Highlands Ranch.
Westminster Promenade 24, 10655 Westminster Blvd., Westminster Orchard 12, 14653 Orchard Parkway, Westminster.

Kerasotes Theaters: free summer movie series (www.kerasotes.com) at 10am on Wednesdays and Thursdays through August 6. Doors open at 9am, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Locations include:

Chinese 16 at Arapahoe Crossings, Parker and Arapahoe Roads in Centennial.

Regal Entertainment Group: Free Family Film Festival through Aug. 5, offers free selected G and PG movies. Movies start at 10am on Tuesday and Wednesday, with first-come, first-served seating limited to the theater’s capacity. www.regmovies.com. Participating theaters include:

OUTDOOR MOVIES

Denver 2009 Movies in the Parks: Friday and Saturday nights through August 8, Free. Movies are held at parks around Denver, and will include free popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy. Summer Movie Madness: Infinity Park, Glendale. Free PG and PG-13 movies start at 8pm, with gates open at 7:30. Bring blankets and snacks, but leave alcohol and pets at home. Infinity Park, 4599 E. Tennessee Ave, Glendale. http://www.infinityparkatglendale.com/ses/monday-movie-madness.php.

Highlands Ranch Film in the Park: scheduled for August 7, 14 and 21, . Movies begin at dusk, around 8:15pm. The show is free, please leave pets at home. Aspen Grove Family Film Festival: free outdoor movies, Wednesday evenings, 6-9pm through August 12. Films include The Tale of Desperaux, Kung Fu Panda, Marley and Me, and E.T. Movies In The Park: Westminster’s City Park, 105th Ave. and Sheridan Blvd. Free, family-friendly movies are screened the last Friday of the summer months, with pre-movie entertainment at 7pm. SUMMER CONCERTS

Pack a blanket, bring the kiddos and head out to hear great local music at parks all over the metro area.

City Park Jazz (Denver): Free jazz concerts, 7-9pm, Sundays through August 8. City Park Bandstand. 303-744-1004. www.cityparkjazz.org.

Lakewood Sounds Exciting Series: 7 p.m. Wednesday evenings through August 5. Civic Center Plaza, outside the Lakewood Cultural Center. Most shows $5 adults, $3 for children.
